Christmas

It is normal to eat differently at Christmas. You can enjoy it and still feel well. These health tips help you make the most of the season without feeling sluggish.

Start the day with a healthy breakfast

Eat breakfast on Christmas day so you are less likely to snack on sweets. Try smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on wholemeal bread with avocado. A Dijon mustard dressing is a nice touch.

Christmas meal

For starters, try melon or smoked salmon. Salmon is a good source of omega 3 fatty acids that support heart health. A hearty vegetable soup is also a great choice. Turkey is low in fat and high in protein, so enjoy it with a generous serving of vegetables.

Fill up on vegetables

Brussels sprouts, peas, and carrots contain antioxidants. Roast or steam them and add herbs, olive oil, or lemon. Half a plate of veg makes the whole meal feel lighter.

Healthy Christmas snacks

Keep a large bowl of fruit nearby. Satsumas are rich in vitamin C. Chestnuts are naturally lower in fat than many nuts, so roast a few. Choose reduced fat crisps, plain popcorn, pretzels, or raw veg with low fat dips. Dates, figs, and apricots make a sweet dessert.

Keep active and stress free

Make time for yourself. A warm bath, a good film, a board game, or a short walk can reduce stress. Eat slowly and stop before you feel uncomfortably full. A gentle stroll after lunch helps digestion.

Enjoy the traditions you love. Small choices add up and help you feel bright through the holidays.
